WP1 - Restore peatlands and create healthy peat landscapes

Within this work package, we develop a joint strategy and implement joint actions on sustainable rewetting and restoring peatlands in pilot areas of partner regions.  

This includes: 

• Initiating peat-forming processes

• Restoring landscapes and ecosystems

• Keeping carbon stored by capturing, retaining and storing water

• Increasing biodiversity in these areas
  

WP2 - Develop business and economic opportunities

Within this work package, we develop and implement new or scale up existing business models to boost sustainability transitions in order to mitigate and adapt to climate change. 

Moreover, we work out a joint strategy towards new business

models for novel entrepreneurship in wet peatlands, and demonstrate such models in pilots. 

Pilot examples are:

• Waterfarming

• Payments for ecosystem services

• Biobased peatless cultivation substrate
  

WP3 - Improve governance

Within this work package, we develop a joint strategy and implement joint actions in order to encourage and facilitate multi-stakeholder-cooperation and collective action for sustainable peatland management and ecosystem rehabilitation.

The creation of new or enhancing existing cooperation structures involves all quadruple helix actors taking responsibility, co-creating and scaling up of solutions in order to better mainstream and replicate them for the long term.
